Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 30, 2026

Jacket is a weather forecast app. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally on your device only and never transmitted to our servers:

Data Sent to Our Server

When you request weather forecasts, the following data is sent to our server (hosted on Google Cloud):

This data is processed in real-time to generate your forecast and is not stored on our servers.

Third-Party Services

Our server uses the following third-party services to provide weather data:

Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com)

Google Gemini AI (Google Cloud)

Location Permission

Jacket requests coarse location permission (approximate, not precise) to detect your current city. You can also manually search and select a location without granting this permission.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, share, or transfer your personal data to third parties beyond what is described above for weather data retrieval and below for crash reporting.

Analytics & Tracking

Jacket does not use any analytics or advertising tracking services.

Crash Reporting

To keep the app reliable, Jacket uses Sentry (sentry.io) for crash and error reporting. If the app encounters an error, a technical report is sent to Sentry containing the error details, your device model, operating system version, app version, and a randomly generated installation identifier. Sentry may derive an approximate location (country/city level) from the request's IP address; the IP address itself is not stored in the report. These reports contain no account information, no weather ratings, and no saved locations, and are used solely to diagnose and fix problems.

Data Retention

Security

All data transmitted between your device and our server is encrypted using secure WebSocket (WSS) connections.

Your Rights

European Economic Area (GDPR): If you are located in the EEA, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. Since Jacket stores all personal data locally on your device and does not maintain server-side accounts, you can exercise these rights by clearing the app's data or uninstalling it. You may also contact us to request confirmation that no data is retained on our servers.

California (CCPA): If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect and to request its deletion. Jacket does not sell personal information to third parties. As described above, all personal data is stored on your device and no personal information is retained on our servers.
